Asap mengepul dari derek saat putus dan jatuh ke tanah di 41st Street dan 10th Avenue dekat Hudson Yards di tengah kota Manhattan.
Suara teriakan terdengar, saat itu orang-orang di trotoar berlarian dari lokasi runtuhan pada Rabu pagi.
Enam orang terluka termasuk dua petugas pemadam kebakaran.
Salah satu petugas pemadam kebakaran dirawat di rumah sakit karena nyeri dada.
Para korban yang berlumuran darah dibawa dengan ambulans, menurut saksi.
Lebih dari 200 petugas pemadam kebakaran dikerahkan ke balkon tetangga untuk memadamkan kobaran api.
“Ini adalah pagi yang baik, ini bisa menjadi jauh lebih buruk,” kata wakil komisaris Departemen Pemadam Kebakaran Kota New York Joseph Pfeifer kepada wartawan.

Menurut saksi, Tyra Robbins, 26, yang bekerja di 10th Avenue antara jalan 34th dan 35th mengatakan derek itu terlihat ‘seperti jatuh dalam gerakan lambat’.
‘Aku hanya membeku. Saya tidak percaya itu terjadi, Aku mendengar suara retakan, lalu melihat api.’ pungkasnya.
